local email

I'm not a complete Linux beginner, but this is something that's tripped me up. What's the minimum needed for one user on a machine to send email to another user on the same server? I have a home FC4 box, and login using different id's for different purposes. I'd like to be able to send an email from one userid to another. I'd rather not have to setup Sendmail, but is that or another MTA what's needed?

Thanks

Yes, its an mta and mailprogram (e.g. nail) what you need. IF sendmail seems too much a mountain to take on, try something a bit more modern like Postfix. If your distro's official mirrors have packages for mta:s, they probably have local mail preconfigured in them so you may be in luck (:
