or,
Open file-manager find the usb and click on it to mount it, take note of where it is mounted.
Open another file-manager window go to the directory where the iso is located you want to use
Right-click the iso and select "open with file archiver" ctrl-a to select all the files displayed in the window pane, click extract navigate to usb for extraction.

reply to #59.
Aaah, colorpurple you are right. I had moved all iso versions into folders in Downloads leaving only the lubuntu-22.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso available in Downloads.
I moved it back into Downloads and will try again, and if it fails I will look at your latest suggestion in #60.
Out of curiosity, why did you choose the Ubuntu iso over the Lubuntu version?
I looked at Ventoy but I didn't download it because I didn't know which version, number 2 or number 3. Also the site seems to suggest that I would have to make adjustments.
Use whichever iso you want to, I thought in the previous post 58 said you tried the ubuntu iso. If that post is correct you would get the error with only the lubuntu iso in the Downloads folder

No problems. I followed your first instructions as opposed to the last set--and it seemed to work. Got through all the commands, though "Sync" had some problems. I then tried the USB on the Notebook and it hung when I clicked on
Quote:
Try or Install
. I thought it might be the BIOS as I read there is a newer version, but it seems to be for only Windows 10 or 11. Maybe it is just not possible....
What I can't understand is if I have successfully made a live image, wouldn't I see .iso on the end of the file? Just looking at the name of the file there is no mention of .iso, nor is it in any of the folders.
Thanks colorpurple for your patience and help. If nothing else I will know to buy a computer that has Linux already installed. I am in the process of looking for one, but all the standard desktops don't offer Linux.
Thanks colorpurple. Yes, there is a .disk folder. I did use the commands in #25 after I corrected the removal of the ubuntu .iso file. The folders and files are:
Quote:
.disk
boot
]casper
dists
EFI
install
pool
preseed
boot.catalog [file/ text?]
mid5sum.text
I wonder if I went wrong on the way I used GParted. I tried to follow what you mentioned:
clicked on device and selected msdos table [trying to remember if it said "dos" instead of "msdos". If theere isn't that choice then I did it right.]
Clicked on partition and selected Fat32.
The procedure was taking so much time that I thought it was hanging so I cancelled. Noticed that part of the partition was done, so I redid the partition for Fat32, and the second time it went quickly. Could this be a source for error?
Couldn't update the BIOS because the update requires Windows 10 or 11. I might contact Asus thugh I don't hold much hope.
Finally, I may try the Live Disk maker you had suggested.
I don't think it matters if the drive is gpt or msdos when setting up the usb for uefi mode only. It would matter if you was setting up the usb drive to boot in both legacy and uefi mode.
Did you see it would work with the safe-graphics option at the boot menu? If you are getting the flash screen hit esc to see what is happening
I did try safegraphics but it hung with all kinds of code displayed. The strange thing is that the second time I inserted the USB I didn't even get what I got the first time, that is the Ubuntu emblem. Thanks I will try MXlinux when I get a chance to and will let you know.
