linux v3 enterprise hangs on boot. it looks like it is loading service for software that we use. if i reboot and hit the "I" key for interactive mode i can choose not to run those services. I do get to a loging but when i enter the user name and password nothing happens. how do i get linux to startup so i can try and reinstall the service that is hanging.

Linux v3 doesn't exist yet (2.6.x is the latest).
Please post some details about what you're using (is it Redhat EL v3 ?) plus your actual error message.
Since you mentioned a login prompt, it did fully boot. What do you mean with "nothing happens". (is it still responsive?).

sorry it is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 3 ES. when i get to the login prompt i enter the username and password, hit enter, the cursor advances to the next line and blinks. I do not get to a command line. I do not get a message that the password or user was invalid, etc. the only thing i can do is reboot.
What's the software called? Can you boot from a live cd and try to stop it from there?
The software is call XpanceNet. I do not have a live cd and am not sure how to make/get one. I do have the installation disks. The support guy at the vendor did not want to do a reinstall of linux due to the fact that we may lose some data that we need.
i think even with the install disks, right when anaconda starts, if you go to alt-f2 youll get a prompt. mount your HD and then you'll have to edit this expanse thing out if its preventing a shell starting for some reason, but i dont know which file. (something in /init.d or something). sure someone here will help you, just wait a few hours.
