Linux Ubuntu Server 12.04 Many Issues

Hello All-

I'm new to the Linux world and getting use to Linux by troubleshooting a Ubuntu server with several issues: no internet access, can't ping google, can't download or get any software or tools. I resolved these issues before but now none of the previous commands work. I'm getting multiple error messages:-sh: 35: resolv.conf not found, -sh 37: ethtool: not found, E: unable to locate package ethtool, unable to locate package....can anyone help?
