Question Linux Possibility

Is it possible to install the bash without the GUIs (like DOS without the windoze), and install and run certain apps like gcc to compile the kernel?

Definitely. Um, don't know how to expand on that, but yes, of course it is www.linuxfromscratch.org www.gentoo.org www.debian.org All of these (and many more) actually do the installs from "DOS" and (with the exception of Debian) after the initial install, will not have a gui, you must choose what you want to use beyond the base install (which does not have any gui).

HTH

Cool

to simply get rid of it going to GUI, you can edit the /etc/inittab file and tell it the default run level is 3, rather than starting from scratch ... depending on your motivation it might be sufficient.
