Linux on USB flash/HDD, bootable as well as virtual

Hello Guys, I was searching for a some operating system which can be installed on the USB flash drive as well as external HDD. The best option available is Linux and its variants. I got fedora 14 installed on USB flash drive it ended up as virtual system, on a Virtual box, further it is too slow to boot, even with 2GB of RAM. Then I came across the Slax or slackware, it is bootable, fast but cannot run as virtual system. I am looking for some OS which should be fast, which can run both in Virtual environment as well as live i.e. bootable, further I should be able to install softwares like open office. I know I am demanding too much but it is linux, and as I know anything is possible in Linux. . . Thank you . . .

Nayeem,

fedora is linux os. linux never slows.all flavors are same . linux doesn mean to desktop application its mean to linux internal kernel.ok .it depends on your applicatio processes . how many processes are running on your system in background .
becoz application process makes the system heavy.

ok , you want to embed the linux on the flash USB . firstly, see what the configuration of you sytems . it is suitable for os or not . then install the linux according the space and configuration . And also you can manage the linux in 3mb digital watch and also in big supercomputer. so , install only those things what you have great need e.g. you dont have a need of sound driver then you can configure according to your to need . suppose you dont have a need of office then you can also install the linux without office . so see what you have a need . what is you configuration. but ubuntu also yu can try .its also nice os and lightweight.

Ihanks
