have installed linux server in Brand New HP Compaq P4 machine which hs 512 MB RAM and 80 GB hard disk.

Everything works fine. but de Network card is not getting detected.
I have reinstalled de OS twice. but only network is de prbm.

My Network card is Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit Ethernet. It works with Windows XP.But what would be the possible cause?

Please update me. Even USB s not getting detected.
Any changes need to be done.

NB: If am using 3com Ethernet adapter, It works fine..but for all the machines i coud nt update the mgmt to buy 3com n/w adapter.so let me know the solution as ap.

It would help if you mention what Linux distribution you are using.

If you're in a hurry, first thing you can do is to Google everything I could find about Linux support for that network card. Write the manufacturer to ask what they know about the level of support, and complain if they aren't supporting it at all.

If you want to directly test whether your hardware is supported, I would suggest booting with a live CD and seeing whether it detects your hardware. For example:
http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html

This has excellent hardware detection, so if your hardware works on that the problem probably lies with compatibility with whatever distro you are using.

Once you figure that out, you might consider posting specific compatibility questions in the relevant Linux forum (Debian, Fedora, Slackware, etc.).
