Linux & Compaq2100 Laptop

I've a Compaq 2100 laptop. I'd like to try to use a Linux OS for it.

What's the best Distro for laptop? I've tried to install Debian but it gives me a lot of error.

i'd try knoppix first, it has good hardware detection. then if it works out, you could install knoppix to the HD and have a debian system w/ the apt tool.

Isn't knoppix a live-cd distribution? It can be installed on HD? How can I?

there is tons of documentation out there (and here, at LQ) - here's one knoppix install guide, for example: http://www.freenet.org.nz/misc/knoppix-install.html

if you're going to use linux, get in the habit of searching google and this site at a minimum to find the answers -- it will make things a lot easier for you in the long run.
