I hear it's possible to record LILO to a boot disk... so when booting without it, it'll just boot into linux, but when booting with the disk, LILO gives us a choice, either linux or windows.

Can it be done and if it can, how?!

Yes, you should be able to do it, but I don't know how. A good idea would be to go to lilo documentation. The "User_Guide.pdf" is a very useful manual (which should be in "/usr/share/doc/lilo-doc-22.4.1/" or something like that, but perhaps is not installed in your system, check it)
Good luck, and take it easy (I had several bad experiences playing around with boot sectors and lilo )

You can take it off the boot loader and use a floppy to boot xp.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about what others thought.
