Question libiconv errors

Hello,
I have redhat7.3 installed in my system.I have downloaded libiconv1.8 and followed the instructions in the install file. The installation is successful. Now the problem is when I am installing another application it gives the following errors

undefined reference to libiconv_open
undefined reference to libiconv_close
undefined reference to libiconv
and the installation comes to the end.

I have set the path in /etc/ld.so.conf file and executed /sbin/ldconfig.

Can anybod help me to resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance.
