launching app under wine only works in root

hi-

i log-in to yast as root and go to install software.
then i install wine.

then i go to /usr/bin and chown username users wine

next i issue alias shbin which changes to /home/username/bin

then i type sh ypops.

this will work under root but fails if i am in the shell
NOT as a root user and goes into dbg mode.

i must be missing something. i tried to keep wine and
ypops as a regular user. i read almost all programs
should run under a regular user as opposed to root.
ypops is an email notifier that emulates pop3 checking
of yahoo. i am going to see if i cant generate a error log.

any ideas are appreciated.

thanks very much,
jim

hi again-

i have a possible red flag of some form to report.
in the directory /usr/lib/wine there are a ton of *.so files
i noticed that all the wine directory exe programs in konqueror are linking to that directory.
ypops has no link specified and no *.so file associated.

i am tired and need sleep. goodnight.

thanks for any help,
jim

i give up. i know you can run the notepad bundled in wine
as a regular shell user. so something is kooky with the way i set up
ypops or something. i dont absolutely need a program to check my yahoo account.
i can just go log-in using the web. i might look at this mr. postman and see if i can get that one to work.

so forget it and thanks anyways.
have a nice weekend,
jim

Have you got any chance to solve this issue?

Hi I'm using Fedora Core 6 and I have the same problem. Wine works only with my root account, but in the non-root account the window appears but nothing is displayed and a lot of errors appear in the terminal window.

Regards,
JLP
