You should be able to change the typeface globally for regular text.
Any way... for the text, try the wrapping the entire document with "bfseries":
Code:
\bfseries{
This is some text\footnote{The text has a footnote}.
\begin{equation}
x = y^2
\end{equation}
This is some more text.
}
It's a cheap-n-dirty way to render all the
normal text as bold but, frankly, not very good. The equation will not be in a bold typeface. (For example, footnotes, if you tried the example above, did not render the footnote text as bold using this trick.) What you want to do is going require a package.
For equations, there are some font packages that render equation text and symbols as bold. I've
never used them so I'm afraid I can't be of much help in their use. Try searching for the "\mathbf" and the "\bm" packages. "amsmath" apparently has their own bold font packages: "\boldsymbol" and "\pmb". Again... never used them.
You might try heading over to
CTAN and search the list of packages in the archives for "F" and check out any packages containing "font". There's plenty there to read and, in my experience, the packages are full of examples so you're bound to find the best way to change all your text to bold. (
Hint: I think "font_selection" might be exactly what you're looking for.)
HTH...
Have fun!
