Lastest Apache server that runs on Red Hat Enterprise 5.4

I'm a newbie to Linux sys admin, as well as little experience as user. I have a box that is Rec Hat Linux 5.4 with Apache server 2.2.3 . I'm told there are multiple vulnerabilities in Apache httpd, that version 2.2.16 or later is better. However, I did a package update this week and 2.2.3 is where I sit. Is there a newer version that will run or a patch for 2.2.3? Upgrading Red Hat is not an option.

Thanks

There is not a newer version available from RedHat. However, RedHat does backport security patches. You should read the relevant RHSAs and compare the CVEs fixed with the list of vulnerabilities you've been told about.

Alternately you can rebuild the Apache RPM but use the latest (2.2.19) sources, or you can compile vanilla Apache yourself.

I'll have to wait for someone with privileges to the Red Hat site to check for patches. Thanks.
