It might work. The filename can vary a little, but it's in /etc/X11/ usually. XF86Config or xorg.conf. When your Xserver starts, it will say what config it is using.
copy the one from knoppix to your other.

If your debian install has no important data, you can install Knoppix on that partition.

I've got both Knoppix and Knoppix Gamer installed.

I tried both Woody and Sarge but couldn't get them working with a window manager; so I just installed Knoppix over 'em.

To install Knoppix all you do is:
1. Boot from CD (like normal)
2. Select "root console" from the "knoppix" menu
3. Type: knoppix-installer
4. Hit enter.

You won't need to partition or anything if Debian is installed, just choose to install to Debian's partition.

not sure if you still need help, but here is a link that might help.

http://www-106.ibm.com/developerwork...obg-SysRecover

I googled "system recovery with Knoppix."

Search here for --- "xf86config problem"

Halo14 suggested I try "XFree86 -configure" when i had problem with Arch xfree. (full explanation in "xf86config problem" thread here.)

I am new to linux also. just wanted to try to help.

Good Luck,
Blair
