KNOPPIX filesystem not found when booting. Currently running Vista.

I start up my computer with the Knoppix CD and it boots to the Boot Screen. I press enter and it starts to boot. Eventually it errors out. Here's the screen after it errors:

{Penguin}{Penguin}
Welcome to the KNOPPIX live GNU/Linux on CD!

Running Linux Kernel 2.6.19.
Total Memory available: 1423336kB. Memory free: 1410284kB
Scanning for USB/Firewire devices... Done.
Accessing KNOPPIX CD at /dev/hdc...insmod: can't read '/cdrom/KNOPPIX/modules/cloop.ko': I/O error
insmod: can't read '/cdrom/KNOPPIX/modules/cloop.ko': I/O error
Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset button to quit.

Additional builtin commands available:
cat mount unmount
insmod rmmod lsmod

Thanks for your help!

I would bet you either have a bad CD from the burn or you had an error on download.

Here is a link that describes the correct way to burn the CD. You also need to do an md5sum check on the ISO file you download. That is the best way to know the file is O.K. you have.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO

I also recommend you burn the CD at a slow speed. Don't use the machine for anything else while it is burning.

Knoppix is a very good live CD. Burned properly with a good file, I have never had a problem with it.

Seems I forgot some information.

The CD is not a burn, it came with my book for school.
Also it works on my desktop which runs XP and my school computers which use Win2K.

If the CD boots on another system then that leaves hardware on the system that fails, or knoppix does not have a suitable driver loaded to read the CD. Could be either.

Can you read other CD's on that system? Dirt or dust can cause problems.

If that is not the case, then post the make and model of the CD drive. You can find that out from the windoze installation. We need to know if the CD is IDE, SCSI or what ever.

BTW, the Knoppix web site has a forum and a lot of information on booting issues.
Here is a link. --> http://www.knoppix.net/forum/

Second thought, What is the system you are trying to boot this on?

Fedora works, Ubuntu works and all my games work.

I won't be able to check my CD-ROM drive for about another 30 minutes.

I'm trying to boot on a Toshiba Satelite A135-S2276 (laptop) with Vista.
