Kickstart file does not create a Desktop CentOS 7 rather a server based CentOS 7?

Hey Guys,

Please find below the snippet of my Kickstart file.

Code:
root@PXEBOOT1 ~]# cat /var/ftp/pub/ks.cfg
# Installation logging level
install

lang en_US.UTF-8

keyboard us

timezone Australia/Melbourne

auth --useshadow --enablemd5

selinux --permissive

firewall --enabled

services --enabled=NetworkManager, sshd

eula --agreed

#Use FTP Location
url --url="ftp://192.168.1.101/pub/"

bootloader --location=mbr

# Clear the Master Boot Record
zerombr
clearpart --all --initlabel

autopart --type=lvm
# Partition clearing information
#clearpart --all --initlabel --drives=sda

rootpw --iscrypted $1$hBplWl9M$drAkUSbJrtvrHCpAANflb1

user --name=jim --iscrypted --password=$1$hBplWl9M$drAkUSbJrtvrHCpAANflb1

%packages
@base
@gnome-desktop
%end
halt
[root@PXEBOOT1 ~]#
Unfortunately, when the VM boots up. It goes directly runlevel 3 (Server mode) rather than a Desktop.

I also tried to do init 5 but that does not work.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you

Unsure if this helps, but I'd start with someone's basic desktop, like this one and then customize from there.

In addition, you installed the desktop but not the x server. You need to add the x11 package i.e @x11. There might be other packages that need to be installed. If you have another system running a desktop you can use the kickstart configurator.

Hi ALl,

I figured out the problem and this can be closed. graphical-server-environment and X11 were additional packages required.

Regards,
Jim
