kernel update help

Hi All,

My Linux 8.0 is running on kernel-2.4.18-14. And a few days ago, I used
up2date to download the latest kernel "kernel-2.4.20-13.8" and installed this new kernel.

After this, the Red Hat Network Alert Notification Tool always has the following critical information:
Your system is currently runing kernel-2.4.18-14, but the newest installed kernel is kernel-2.4.20-13.8. It is recommended that you reboot at the first opportunity to test this new kernel.

I rebooted my system several times. But the system is still running the old kernel. I am wondering how can I let my system to run the newest installed kernel.

Thanks!

Sandy

You need to edit your /boot/grub/grub.conf to point to the new kernel before re-booting, so you will have the option of booting either one until you are satisfied that the new one works right. Read "upgrading the kernel" "building a custom kernel" in the RH docs (customization guide IIRC) or some grub info.
