kernel complie error


I am new to linux. I am trying to recompile my kernel and am getting several errors where can I go to get help understanind them I think I may need to update some file haveing to do with tcp/ip I am using slackware 8.0 I would apreciate any help even if it is just some were to look up htese error or how to look them up.

the ereors are as follows


Make[3]:***[fib_hash.0] error1
Make[3]: leaveing directory '/usr/src/linux-2.4.5/net/ipv4'
Make[2]:***[first_rule] error2
Make[2]:leavingdirectory '/usr/scr/linux-2.4.5/net/ipv4'
Make[1]:***[_sabdir_ipv4] error2
Make[1]: leaving directory '/usr/scr/linux-2.4.5/net'
make: ***[_dir_net] error 2

I've had some problems with gcc3.3 and compiling kernels lately, so I went back to 3.2 and it's working ok again.

i am using 3.2.2 for GCC and it can't compile anything after 2.4.21 too similar errors
