You can easily copy a file without using the command line at all.

For instance if you're using Konqueror, just drag the file icon into the folder where you want to put the copy, then select "copy here" from the popup menu.

That's far easier than trying to copy the file using the command line.

thanks for another tip. sounds easier; however, I need to start learning how to use the command line. That's where I always run into problems...not knowing how to work in terminal. I've spent much too much time in Windows, and using GUI. I really want to learn how to "get my hands dirty" working with the guts of the system, and actually learning how to do tasks.
