Just reinstalled Mandrake 9.2 and can't find Open Office

I had hopelessly screwed up Mandrake 9.2 so I reinstalled it and now I don't have and cannot find Open Office. I am using the KDE 3.1 gui.

No. and I can't find it in the Mandrake packages for install. I thought that it was being installed when I reinstalled 9.2 but its not on the KDE pop up menu. Do you think it is there somewhere and not on the menu and if so where would it be?
Thanks for your reply. I am glad that somone is listening to my frustrations. My wife keeps telling me to dump Linux and just use XP, but I am drawn to the challenge. I have 4 books that I use for info and it seems that the answers to MY questions don't usually seem to be there, so that is why I am making these posts.

hi

i just installed mandrake 9.2 on friday and i have exactly the same problem- no icons on the kde desktop for anything except the mounts and a very unhelpful welcome screen. in the file manager i can open a shell and run open office from there, but its a real pain having to go through the
config->kde .... etc to get the filemanager up everytime i want to do anything. what did i do wrong? where are all my applications?

If it is installed, the programs are in /usr/bin. They begin with the letters oo. The Open Office.org Writer is called oowrite.
Type oo<tab> in a console. Using auto-completion, you'll find out the names of the others.

The icons are in the system icons section. They also start with the letters 'oo'.

I typed in urpmq OpenOffice. It returned 3 packages of interest:
OpenOffice.org
OpenOffice.org-help-en
OpenOffice.org-libs

Hey, guys, I installed OpenOffice 1.1 from CD in my Mandrake 9.1, and can't find the icons (the application links) neither in my desktop or in the menu... how can I set drake up to show them, without having to place them manually???

Thanks!!!
