javax comm for suse linux

I'm trying to get the javax.comm api working on suse linux. But alas it seems to be beyond my powers. So here are my questions:

I downloaded the Solaris x86 Platform - is that correct? I couldn't find anything more suitable @ the sun site.

I followed the installation guide provided with the package but it seems not to work? The compiler spits "CommPortLister.java:1: package javax.comm does not exist" back to me so obviously it can't be found. I copied the files and fixed the CLASSPATH var. Still no luck...

can anyone help me here? Is the package correct (the Solaris part in the naming still confuses me).

Has someone done this on suse linux and can give me instructions.

I'm pretty desperate here had no luck with linux so far

thanx for input.

According to the Sun web site, it only runs on Winblows & Solaris/SPARC and Solaris/x86 not Linux/x86. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not if I'm reading Sun's web site correctly. Maybe you should send them an e-mail asking if they do a Linux/x86 version.

thanks for your assistance so far.

I can hardly believe to be the first one to face this issue?

I will try and email them - in the meantime I still hope to get some positive comments on that matter.
