gideon0110,

Nobody has mentioned the problems encountered on installing Linux on your particular Acer Aspire E-15 laptop.
This will give you an idea of what to expect.

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

You can look at LQ's Download Linux
Quote:
Welcome to LQ ISO
This site is designed to meet all of your Linux distribution download needs, including searching for fast mirrors, receiving email updates when new versions of your favorite distributions are released and reading reviews. If you do not see the distribution you are looking for below, you can view the complete alphabetical list. Please let us know if you have any suggestions.

If you find the site useful, you can help spread the word by telling 10 friends the URL (http://www.lqiso.org/). Thanks.
I suggest that you select a Live ISO image to test drive on your hardware. That way you can see which fits your needs, Be aware that if you use a Live Gnu/Linux that some will be a little slower unless the run from RAM option is available. Not all support persistence, which means you can leave then return to the previous state of the run and have that environment. Some allow one to use different media such as USB flash drives vs burning the image to CD/DVD.

EDIT
: For live look at the Live option link; Live Personally I like Slackware Live plus you can get help from some very friendly & helpful LQ members at the official LQ Slackware forum

You should be able to get assistance from the LQ forum for the chosen Gnu/Linux. Please consider reading http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...#faq_lqwelcome & LQ Rules so as to compose a good thread or query to your question. In that way you can help us to help you to solve a problem or clarify issues.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

Last time I checked Ubuntu was more stable than OS X, although admittedly I haven't checked in a while. It's also a lot easier to change the battery on Ubuntu's flagship XPS 13 than it is on a Macbook.

Unfortunately, not for long.

So I am in the process of testing dist-roes that target older machines including: Vector Linux, Macpup Linux & SlaxLinux.
I was happy using Mint-Mate until it updated/upgraded & therefore self destructed my operating system leaving me high and dry stranded in the Windows10-TROJAN-WORM virus OS.
That, sir, is what we in the biz call "complete BS and FUD". 16.04 LTS is running like a dream on my certified 2012 Latitude 14 WITHOUT UEFI and with no hacks or anything of that nature.

Heh...don't visit any site in Windows. In fact, just pull out the network card and remove all doubt of its home-phoning. Better yet just have the infested disk shredded.
@OP, we will likely never see a drop in replacement for Windows in the next 10 years. That being said, for the things you do, a Mac would be way overkill...especially when you can get similar simplicity for free on Linux.
