internet or sound?? hard choice....

hello....

i installed mandriva 2008 gnome form the one cd. i only have a dial up connection because in living in Ukraine at the current time. I have my modem working fine under gusty with a linuxant driver, but no sound in gusty because of a bug. I installed mandriva to dual boot with because i was told the sound works with my intel HDA card, and this is true i just need to use acpi_osi=!Linux . The problem starts whe i install the linuxant driver in mandiva, i get an error saying "Volume control stopped working blah blah blah" and have no sound. also with the driver installed my system shows no sound card at all. when i uninstall the driver and reboot everything is normal.

i have a intel HDA (ich 7 family)
conexant chip.

any help would be great!

thanks!

I'd suggest trying another distro.

If you have a spare PCI slot you might consider installing a cheap sound card. A bit of a drastic solution but you will at least have sound working.
