Below is what worked on my Win95-Redhat7.1 network. Redhat7.1 has a dialup connection.
Run the Network Configurator to setup your network.

In network properties under TCP/IP click "Specify an IP Address" and enter:
192.168.0.2
subnetmask
255.255.255.0
192.168.0.1 will be your Gateway.
Enable DNS and enter your ISP's DNS IP#s
"Host" name will be the windows computer's name
Once your network is setup:
Run the Firestarter Firewall wizzard and enable IP maquerading
Firestarter Firewall
http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/
Once you figure it out it only take a few minutes to setup instead of days of frustration. Write your network settings down when you get everything setup. If you have any DNS problems. Connect to the internet first, load your home page or surf anywhere once then start the Firewall.
DHCP is not used.
