Internet access with comcast

I have just switched over to Comcast for high-speed cable internet access. Before that, I was using a dial-up WIN modem and thus could not access the internet from Linux. (I have both Windows XP and Redhat 10.0 running on the same computer). So I used Windows XP for internet work, and Linux for some other things (playing around).

Now my Windows XP system accesses the Internet through Comcast, using a Motorola SB5120 cable modem. I'd like to be able to boot up the Linux system and access the internet also. Is this possible? If so, what do I need to do?

John

'system-config-network' works well for me in Gnome. There are probably other ways too.

All I think you have to do is configure DHCP to get an IP from the modem.

Are you using a USB or ethernet connection to your modem?
The best choice is to use the ethernet connection for any broadband connection.

I'm using the USB connection, because I have another computer using the ethernet connection so that I have a (very small) local network utilizing the comcast connection with both computers running XP.

I suggest you create a small ethernet network with something like a 4 port switch. This will give all your computers acces through the ethernet connections.
