I would really like to have a quick boot for Skype or Webbrowsing much/just like Splashtop.
Just wondering if it is possible to download Splashtop somewhere and install it on a harddrive?
I know the source code is availble at splashtop.com/blog
Perhaps another way would be to use a super-ultra-mega slim Linux version that can do the same (Puppy/DSL/LFS/...)
I'd probably recommend you to use a light distro for that. The fast boot option is only available with the motherboards listed on the project homepage. The point is that Splashtop is run straight from the motherboard, that's what makes it so fast. If you install it on the hard drive, it would still spend the same amount of time booting up as any other distro. If you want a quick boot without the special motherboard just get the lightest distro that you can find. My made-from-scratch system can boot to X in less then 25 seconds for example and any small distro can do the same if you cut out all the bloat.
How do you do?
I'm newbie in this forum and still learning about linux OS and the linux kernel. You said that you have the splashtop and modified by your own and can boot to X in less then 25 seconds, may I test yours splashtop porject?
Thanks

No I didn't say quite that. I don't have splashtop as it's pretty useless without the special motherboard. I have a custom-made distro based on the Linux From Scratch and DIY Linux reference builds. You can google them if interested.
