installing pygtk

I followed the instructions to install pygtk 2.4.0
./configure
make
make install as root

after that I try to run a python program and I get the error that there is no module "gtk".

You should of

./configure --prefix=/usr

by default most packages install in /usr/local

You could of just gotten a precompiled package from here
