If the NICs fail to initialize at boot, the first thing to do is turn off Plug-N-Play support in your BIOS. It causes conflicts with some cards, and is a common reason for NIC installation troubles.
If that doesn't work, use the
Forum Search; using keywords like "NIC", "ifconfig", "modprobe", and "alias eth0" to browse previous threads dealing with your problem. Configuring NICs is a very popular topic here; so I'm sure you'll find an answer in one of the archived discussions. Most of the solutions deal with just one installed NIC, so if someone suggests a procedure for troubleshooting eth0, remember to also do that procedure for your second NIC (eth1) as well.
