Question Installing into a laptop with non working screen using a external Monitor

I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 which I would like to use completely with any Linux OS. I have tried to install Linux Ubuntu 10.04.1 but it appears that it doesn't recognize the external monitor and ends the installation. I have a clean hard drive that I could install but I do not know which of the two drives I should replace. I can only get into windows in safe mode and I would think this may have something to do with the problem, don't no. Thanks for being here or (there) for the help.

You might go into BIOS/Setup and see if there is a way to disable the internal monitor so it always uses external.

When you boot to a live cd does this setup work correctly? If so then it should be easy to do.

I can't really tell from your post what is going on just yet.

It may be possible to remote into it but you need to explain a bit more on exactly what you have done or are trying to do.
