Installing Gentoo

Ive been trying to do a stage1 install of gentoo. Im getting errors left and right, compiling bootstrap.sh and running emerge system. I really need to start them over, but I dont want to because it took a day and a half for bootsrap.sh and a day for emerge system. So, I want to know if there is a better compilation setting for an AMD K6 200MHz with 256MB RAM. Here is what I have set in make.conf:

CFLAGS="-march=k6 -02"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"

Each process had several errors, and I have no way of reporting them all without starting over and running them with less or more. Really, I just want them to work faster so this doesnt take a week.

I afraid the only way you can speed up the installation is to not start from stage 1. What proceedure did you follow and what boot cd did you start from? I'm curious why you are getting so many errors.

I used the Minimal install LiveCD. I downloaded the stage1 tarball. Im following the handbook's procedure at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handboo...?part=0&chap=0. I dont really know whats causing the errors. The bootstrap.sh had errors but did finish, so I tried emerge system, and it failed at step 10 of 74. Like I said, in order to get the exact errors, I would have to start it over with less or more to get them written down. I think it has something to do with the compiler not being installed or set up correctly early on in the bootstrap.sh process. One of the errors was something like "src_compile g++" "make failed".
