I am currently running:

Linux
2.6.24-1-amd64
(Linux Debian Lenny)

on

GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11]

I am trying to install:

Flash Player which is located:

/home/gandolfo/Desktop/install_flash_player_9_linux/flashplayer-installer

I am following the requirements for installation at:

The version I downloaded is:

Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.124.0
.tar.gz for Linux (x86) |. 3MB

which should be compatible with my computer architecture.

When I run the command in the root terminal:
./flashplayer-installer

I get the error messsage:


ERROR: Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
Adobe Flash Player installer.

This is obviously incorrect as the download states it is x86 and my architecture is x86.

Any ideas?

The CPU in your system is capable of running a 32 or 64 Bit OS, but which did you install ?
x86 architecture yes, but from your kernel version it looks like you have installed a 64 Bit version of the OS...
you can verify with the getconf command.

getconf LONG_BIT

if the response is 32 then you have a 32 bit kernel running
if the response is 64 then you have a 64 bit kernel running

not much mystery in those responses.

you could always try using nspluginwrapper if you are running a 64 bit version of the OS and browser.
