You have not told us your distro. I am
assuming Debian, / 'buntu / mint family because that allows me to offer some suggestions.

Please explain what you mean here. Epson supplied software for linux for their scanner? How was this supplied and installed?
It might need to have its firmware installed.....
Find the file (on the windows installation disk for the scanner, somewhere in your windows computer, or from the web) called
esfw41.bin
When you have found it, put it in your home directory, then
Move it to
/lib/firmware/

sudo mv esfw41.bin /lib/firmware/
Add yourself to the
scanner group
Code:
sudo adduser jdwyers scanner
Plug in your scanner and run
sane-find-scanner
It should be recognised
