I would like to install Debian on a Compaq AP500 workstation with a SCSI HDD, I have successfully got RedHat running with no problems but when I boot from the Debian CD, the installer does not detect and hard drives. I am relatively new to Linux and have no clue where to go from here, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really stumped here, I assume I need to install a SCSI driver before installing but have no idea how to do that.
Can you describe the hardware environment a bit? Information such as the SCSI bus adapter you are using, the motherboard brand and model, etc., will make it easier to to help. You might also try searching in the Distributions forum (specifically for Debian) and see what comes up.

Debian is pickier. I had to set it up in the bios to boot from CD Rom first, no floppy drive, and I believe no HD. It then forced a check and it found the hard drive. Boot order is picky especially if it goes through the SCSI bios before the CD has control of your system. Good Luck.
