I am trying to install Apache onto Mandrake 9.1. I am following the step by step procedure on Apache.org, but when I get to make install it produces an "Error 1". Is there any way to fix this/stop it happening?
The info you provide ("Error 1") is not enough to help you with this.
- Which apache version?
- Did ./configure <--whatever> produce any errors/warnings?
- Did make produce any errors/warnings?
- Include the relevant part of make install that went wrong in your post.
Just an assumption, if everything went ok with no errors during ./configure and make and now only fails at 'make install', did you remember to su to root to perform that part of the install?
Originally posted by Michael2003 OK, I used the root console, and that didn't produce any error messages, but it did not create the PREFIX directory. Any ideas?
What do you mean by prefix directory? When you install apache with no --prefix in the ./configure, it will install apache to /usr/local
OK, I have now got Apache installed. But when I go to start it it says that it cannot open because of something to do with not connecting to port 80. I can't post the error message since I cannot seem to post here when in Linux, so have to use Windows for that though.
How are you trying to start it, what command? Are you sure it wasn't already installed by default and not already running, given by the error you stated, the full error will be more helpful to determine?
ps -aux | grep httpd
You can also use netstat to find out what could be using port 80 as well, etc.
Well, I don't understand those screens, but I use the ./apachectl start command in the bin directory to start it.
Can't get the error message easily as I only seem to be able to post here in Windows, and that has Apache running on it. It said something about (89)Address at one point though.
