Installing a 64 bit Linux and running 32 binaries?

I have recently been given the opportunity do spec out some hardware for a Linux box at work. I was wondering if I ended up going with an AMD64 but i'm afraid that my precompiled 32 bit gcc cross compiler that I use will no longer work. So in short. can I run precompiled 32bit apps on the 64 bit system.

Thanks a lot
