Install source files from ISO

I am new to Unix/Linux administration, but I want to learn about it.
I have installed Oracle Linux 5.7 32bit as the virtual guest on the Windows XP virtual host. The VirtualBox is version 4.1.6
The installation of OL Guest was successful or at least seems to me.

I am installing Oracle database on the OL Guest. As the pre-requisites there are numbers of OS packages missing and need to be installed. I notice that the source files ISO (OracleLinux-R5-U7-Server-src-dvd) has been mounted to /media on the Guest.

Quote:
[root@buoel57 Oracle Linux Server src 20110728]# ls
EULA GPL RPM-GPG-KEY SRPMS TRANS.TBL
[root@buoel57 Oracle Linux Server src 20110728]# pwd
/media/Oracle Linux Server src 20110728
I found the all the source files are under directory SPRMS. cd to SPRMS and try to install one of the package

Quote:
[root@buoel57 SRPMS]# rpm -Uvh binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm
warning: binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 1e5e0159
error: cannot create %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
[root@buoel57 SRPMS]#
Have I missed something before trying to install the packages?
Seems OL installation did not take care of the source files installation properly, or that should be a task of the post installation?

Please provide your advices.

TIA

the redhat subdirectory does not exist.

Should I go ahead to create the directory abd agains?
I could , but I do not feel good about that. Why the direcrtor was not created by the OL installer? or is a post installation's task?

What does:
Code:
mkdir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
say?

Try:
Code:
mkdir -p /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
then reinstall. It maybe because you either don't have a /usr/src/redhat directory or there may even be a flat file called /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES in that case:
Code:
mv /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES.old
should fix it.

I have created the dir
/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

and tried and got the follow.
Quote:
[root@buoel57 SRPMS]# rpm -Uvh binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm
warning: binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 1e5e0159
1:binutils warning: user mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: group mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: user mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: group mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: user mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: group mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: user mockbuild does not exist - using root
warning: group mockbuild does not exist - using root
...
What does this tell?

The package was NOT installed after

[root@buoel57 /]# rpm -aq binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm
[root@buoel57 /]#

The source code is there

[root@buoel57 SRPMS]# ls |grep binut*
binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm
[root@buoel57 SRPMS]#

It was not installed by

rpm -Uvh binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5.src.rpm

I understood that was a Warning, but it was not loaded.
