ibm thinkpad r32 and suse 9.3 pro

Hello?

Basically, I have two issues regarding SuSE 9.3 Professional
on IBM ThinkPad R32 laptop as follows:

1. After 9.3 installation, the reboots always automatically
shut down unless I issue "acpi=off" boot option. If I do this,
I do not know what features I am losing. So, is there a way
around this and keep the "acpi" setting on, not off?

2. The Agere built-in modem is automatically detected by
SuSE 9.3. After configuring the modem correctly, if I try to
use the modem, the system is locked immediately and I cannot
do anything. Does anybody have any information on making
this modem work with SuSE 9.3 on this laptop?

Thanks.
