I need serious help!

I am new to Linux... well im pretty good with navigating everything, I just cant ever seem to install anything.

Furthermore, I just got a samsung U3 mp3 player and i have NO idea how to get songs onto it. There is a mini disc in it, but when i try to install software all it says is "cant open file, it's not a folder" or something along those lines..

I tried to get an ipod onto my comp to have songs on, but i had no luck... so i took it back, the lady at the store assured me that I should be able to get this samsung to work on linux.

Please, please,please help me!

it will help EVERYONE if you read the Read me first! on the top of the page, most people ignore posts like these because they only read the title.

now, what distribution are you using, installing sofwtare through the package manager is extremely simple, i'm not sure there is anything easier. compiling a program is still easy, it's just something not everyone is used to doing.

the samsung U3 is a UMS device, so it is just like a USB flash drive. and should be mounted as such. minidisc? huh? i don't follow you.

OK so i do need help... as it turns out it installed about 5 of the 100 songs i wanted to go onto it.

How do i run and open the software after i put it into my computer?? because a folder automatically opens instead of being auto promped to run

So i tried to troubleshoot and install the software.. no luck...

Its not the size of a regular cd... its smaller. I am running unbuntu

when i insert the software a folder opens up with 3 files and a "autorun.exe file.

i double clicked it to open it up... and i got the error "Couldn't display "/media/cdrom0/Autorun.exe". The location is not a folder.

does anyone know how to fix this?

Well Autorun.exe would be a Windows application, so that isn't goung to help you a lot.

What else is on the disk you were given?

when you plug in your device, it should be auto mounted, and it should pop up and also an icon on the desktop. just drag the music files in there. as for the cd, you don't need it, it is for windows only.
