Welcome to LQ! Have you tried to run alsamixer to verify that the master volume is working?
From the command line, type:
alsamixer
This will bring up an interface for adjusting the volume and unmuting. Check that the master volume is at a high enough level (it sometimes is even muted). You adjust the volume with the up arrow and unmute with the space bar. Also check that the sound card is identified in the header. If you have on-board sound on your motherboard it may be loading that sound module instead of the Audigy card.
