i can detect a wired network but cannot obtain an IP address


hello,
i have recenty updated/upgraded to heron form gutsy. upon updating i found i cannot access the internet. i can detect a wired network, but cannot obtain an ip address or ping the router (although i can still access the router from other computers). does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this? or for that matter what have i done wrong?

Sometimes this is caused by not having the DHCP/DNS sources set up correctly. See if you have set it to
1) get IP address automatically
2) possibly put in DNS servers manually (sometimes the local IP of the router or the DNS server of your ISP).
