I'm used to using ksh+vi on commercial Unices, which means you use same (vi) cmds to edit the cmd line ie ESC, then .... bash doesn't like it tho

set -o vi
will set your command line to vi style editing. But I much prefer the emacs style. I am always using the korn shell on solaris and setting the command line to emacs mode.
