I am unable to login to my redhat 9 system. My user account has expired! I also can not login as a root user. I tried to change my username because it has an 'i' in it. This needed to be changed because the whole keyboard diagonal (top left to bottom right) that contains 'i', 'k' etc. does not work at all (this is on a dell inspiron laptop). I have data that i cannot afford to loose. PLEASE HELP ME. I am completely stumped as for what to do. I really would appreciate any help.
hook up your laptop to another box using a crossover cable and grab the things that you need.
if the i's don't work on your keyboard it'll be hard for you to do a recovery from itself, your not going to be able to get into root as a single user.
so i would hook up the cable, boot it up, and then go into it from another box.
