httpd.conf Syntax error

Hi guys,

I've done this before on a Fedora Core system, but this time its not working.

System is Trustix

I've created my dir called ( protect ) /home/httpd/html/protect/
I've added in the .htaccess into the dir.

AuthType Basic
AuthName "Family Online Gallery"
AuthUserFile /home/pass/passwords
Require user somebody somebody

I've created the password file and placed it into the folder called pass

The i ran the htpasswd -c and that seemed to add a user and pass in ok

then i added this into the httpd.config file at the bottom

</DIRECTORY>
<DIRECTORY /home/httpd/html/protect>

AllowOverride AuthConfig

</DIRECTORY>

And i get the following error.
Starting httpd: Syntas error on line 1010 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:</DIRECTORY> without matching <DIRECTORY> section

Can any one tell me what this mean and what i've done wrong please

TT

It means you have an extra </DIRECTORY> line somewhere that is not needed. Double check your httpd.conf file.
