Hi,

just got start myself. The best thing you can do is down load the iso files from a linux vendors website. I am using Federa from Red Hat -- http://www.redhat.com/fedora/ There is some information about what to do here. http://fedora.redhat.com/download/

Download the iso files, burn the cd's and then start an installation on your computer. It is very easy to install the software and rather similar to windows. From there you will have a better sence of perspective.

Also read this http://www.linux.org/docs/beginner/index.html

It's your choice! If you download, I suggest that you check the md5sums on the Linux ISO Images and make sure you know how to burn ISOs in Windows to install Linux
