Question How to permanently change hostname? and are there repercussions to applications?

When I first installed RHEL6 as the OS for my machine I built, I entered the hostname as 'B.A.M.'
I did not realize it at the time, but the periods cause my command terimnal line to just appear as 'Kato@B:'
I would like it to appear as 'Kato@BAM:'

I have tried to change it and thought that I did so, but every time I reboot, my command terminal line reverts back to the old 'Kato@B:'

Q. How do I permanently change my host name to 'BAM'? AND are there possible repercussions to retrieving files or using applications that I am not aware of once I do change the hostname to 'BAM'?

Still learning.

This article outlines how to change the hostname on RHEL:

http://www.brandonhutchinson.com/Cha...e_on_RHEL.html

The hostname is relevant only to networking as to how other machines see the computer. It should have no effect on local applications that you use, nor on applications you retrieve from other machines.
