From Yast --> Hardware --> Printer. If it is a network printer, first you have to specify the connection type: select "Print via Network" from the menu panel on the left, then click on the Connection Wizard button at the bottom of the page. Once you have set this, select "Printer Configurations" and click on the Add button. Follow instructions to select the correct driver and finally print a test page to see if it correctly set-up things for you.

This article explains it all more in details: http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Modules/Printer

HP is highly supports the printers they product. There are a lot of PPDs, driver for their printers on their site at the support center and they have the opensource hplip project that supports a lot of printers in a native way and SuSE is supported ( I use it at work and at home ).

Here is the link for your printer:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web...ard/index.html

for your HP P1008, here is the link:

SuSE is supported by HP so there are a lot of chance you will find driver for SuSE Linux.
