How to install desktop session ?

Hi,

I installed RHEL5 in my system, but didn't install any desktop(Gnome or KDE). Now I want to install any desktop session. Now when I try 'init 5' or 'startx' on the box, it gives a gui with a clock and a terminal window.

Can someone help me install any desktop on this box.

Need one more help regarding installation of Oracle on a remote server.
  1. Is it compulsory to have a gui installed on a remote system to install Oracle 10g ?
  1. Should we connect to the gui of the remote box to install oracle 10g?

You have installed the server version of RHEL5 ... use up2date to obtain the gnome or kde desktop packages.

Note: RHEL is a commercial distro with commercial support. Do use it.

Can anyone help me in starting the installation of Oracle 10g.

Read the manual page for xvnc etc. You need to install the server first of course.

Check out nomachine too. The RPM-based install is pretty painless and all the installation documentation is on the nomachine site.

http://www.nomachine.com/

Secure, faster and (IMHO) easier to configure than VNC.
