How to install a software using shell script?

I everyone,

This is my first post and i hope it will go good!

I have a daily routine task that is installation of one software...

Now i feel that it should be automated. Already i have automated some parts but not able to automate the software intallation using shell script.

When i write install.bin in a shell script then it start asking me the options...

I want my script to read these option from a file... I know how to read a file using shell script but dont know how to apply it at the installation time.

Any help would be highly appreciated!!!

Regards,

Gaurav

Hi and welcome to LQ.

It'll be easier if you post your script. What package are you trying to install?

how about
Code:
cat answers.txt|install.bin
note: it will only work if the answers are always in the same order, they don't vary, etc ...

Thanks for instant reply and i am sorry that i am replying too late

cat answers.txt|install.bin works...

I created a dummy script that asks for some options like name surname and i gave those values in answers.txt file and it worked properly.

But i am afraid that will it work on the actual installer? As i dont know that how they have been written...and i dont want to take any risk because environment is very crucial... if something got wrong they will kill me for my initiative

Regards,

Gaurav

Well, set up a test system and try it there. That is the way you should do it with any change to a production system, by the way.
