How to install a NIC on RHEL 4

Hello,

Please forgive me - as I'm a real newbie on Linux.

I've installed Red Hat 4 Enterprise on an HP Proliant DL360 G5 server. For some strange reason, it did not install the NIC. I don't see any NIC installed under the Network configuration section.

So, I decided to go to HP and download the correct driver. Unfortunately, it doesn't want to install. It says that the driver is not an RPM. It looks like an RPM.

I've been working on getting this NIC on-line for quite some time now. I would think this process should be a little easier.

I would appreciate any helpful hints or instructions on how to troubleshoot and install my downloaded driver.

During my research and trying to load, I get messages such as kernel source needed or is missing. I don't even know how to install such a source. I have all my disks, but i don't know how to apply it.

I also am told to use the rpmbuild command or the rpm -bb command, but it is not found.

Please help.

Thanks,
Vince

Hello Vince,

HP Proliant DL360 G5 is certified by Red Hat for RHEL4. 3. Checkout following ..

https://hardware.redhat.com/show.cgi?id=193235

But there are some problems with network card.. You can find the following link in the above link..

http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_46_8553.shtm

---

Which RHEL4 version are you using?

---

For rpmbuild you need to install rpmbuild package..

---

Next time when you submit a query like this, providing the output for following command could help..

lspci -nn |grep Ethernet

Regards,
Mintos
