how to enable ubuntu to load emerald themes?

Okay, first, hey y'all! My first post here, have decided to put windows on the shelf and go linux all the way.

To the issue;

I've downloaded several emerald themes, imported them in the emerald theme manager.
However when I try to get ubuntu to change from the original interface to my desired emerald theme nothing happens, windowborders and all look the same, no changes what so ever?

Is there a setting to enable emerald or something like that?

You don't say whether you are using Compiz Fusion or another compositor. To get Emerald to work you need to have compositing available which means that your hardware must support it in the first place.

Welcome to Linux BTW! When posting it is helpful to tell us the distro (you say Ubuntu, but which one 8.10 or another and then there are 32-bit and 64-bit versions of each release) and what hardware it is running on. That way people with background in those areas can better help.

I have recently downloaded the emerald theme from the internet. I cant install it. Can you please tell me how to install it.
